Shipping Profiles let 3PLs control which carriers and carrier methods are available for specific clients, warehouses, or individual orders — without disabling the carrier globally.
This is especially handy when a carrier is connected at the 3PL level and is required by some clients but shouldn't be available to others. For example, if UPS is connected at the 3PL level but one client shouldn't use it, you can create a Shipping Profile that excludes UPS for that client instead of disabling UPS for the whole 3PL.
⚠️ Shipping Profiles may need to be enabled. This feature isn't currently shown under the standard Gear Icon options. If it's not available in your environment, reach out to Packiyo Support to have it enabled.
Carrier Connection Level Matters
Where a carrier is connected determines who's affected if it's disabled.
- Connected at the 3PL level — Disabling a USPS, UPS, or other carrier account here can affect all clients under the 3PL.
- Connected at the Client level — Disabling it here only affects that specific client.
Best practice: If a 3PL-level carrier is needed by some clients but should be unavailable to another, use a Shipping Profile instead of disabling the carrier connection outright.
How Shipping Profiles Work
Shipping Profiles work in two modes, so you can pick whichever is less work for the job:
- Exclude: Pick what should not be available. Everything else stays open. Great when you only need to block one or two options.
- Include: Pick what should be available. Everything else is off the table. Great when a client should only use a short list.
You can make these selections at two levels:
- Carrier level: Include or exclude an entire carrier (for example, all of UPS).
- Carrier method level: Include or exclude specific methods within a carrier (for example, keep UPS Ground but exclude UPS Next Day Air).
Example (Exclude): A client shouldn't be able to use UPS. Instead of disabling UPS entirely:
Create Shipping Profile → Exclude UPS → Assign Profile to Client
Every other available carrier stays unaffected.
Example (Include): A client should only ship with UPS Ground and USPS Priority Mail:
Create Shipping Profile → Include UPS Ground and USPS Priority Mail → Assign Profile to Client
Only those methods will be available for that client's orders.
Where Shipping Profiles Can Be Applied
Shipping Profiles can be applied at three levels:
- Client Level — Assigned from the customer edit page, or automated. Applies to that client's orders.
- Warehouse Level — Assigned to a warehouse, applying across all orders tied to it.
- Order Level — Manually applied to an individual order when needed.
Example: Excluding UPS for One Client
Scenario:
- UPS is connected at the 3PL level.
- Client A needs UPS.
- Client B shouldn't use UPS.
Disabling UPS globally isn't the right move here — it would block Client A too. Instead:
- Create a Shipping Profile.
- Configure it to exclude UPS.
- Assign the profile to Client B.
Client B now has UPS excluded, while Client A continues using it normally.
Example: Excluding Just One Carrier Method
Scenario:
- UPS is connected at the 3PL level.
- Client B is fine with UPS, but shouldn't ship with UPS Next Day Air.
You don't need to block all of UPS. Instead:
- Create a Shipping Profile.
- Select the UPS Next Day Air method and set it to exclude.
- Assign the profile to Client B.
Client B keeps every other UPS method. Only Next Day Air is off.
How to Create and Assign a Shipping Profile
Step 1: Create the Shipping Profile
- Go to the Shipping Profiles page (or click the Gear icon > Shipping Profiles).
- Create or update the profile
- Choose whether you're including or excluding
- Select the carrier(s) or carrier method(s) for that mode
Example:
- Shipping Profile:
No UPS - Mode: Exclude | Selection: UPS
Example (method level):
- Shipping Profile: Ground Only
- Mode: Include | Selction: UPS Ground (carrier method level)
Step 2: Assign the Profile to a Client
- Navigate to the Customer page.
- Search for the specific customer.
- Click the pencil/edit icon.
- Scroll down to the Shipping Profile field.
- Select the Shipping Profile you created.
- Click Save.
The profile now applies to that customer's orders.
Important Notes
- Shipping Profiles can include or exclude, at the carrier level or the carrier method level.
- They're useful when a carrier or method should be unavailable to one client but remain available to others.
- Disabling a 3PL-level carrier can affect multiple clients.
- Disabling a client-level carrier connection only affects that one client.
- Shipping Profiles can be applied at the client, warehouse, or order level.
- The feature may need to be enabled for your environment before it appears.
- Creating a Shipping Profile doesn't remove or disconnect the carrier account — it just controls whether that carrier or method is available for applicable orders.
FAQ
Should I disable the carrier if one client doesn't want to use it? No, not if other clients still need it. Instead, create a Shipping Profile that excludes the carrier and assign it to the specific client.
Can I create a profile that only allows UPS and FedEx? Yes! Set the profile to Include and select UPS and FedEx. Anything you don't include won't be available.
Can I block just one shipping method instead of the whole carrier? Yes. You can include or exclude at the carrier method level, so you can turn off something like UPS Next Day Air and leave the rest of UPS alone.
Should I use Include or Exclude? Go with whichever list is shorter. If you only need to block a couple of options, Exclude. If a client should only use a handful, Include.
Can I apply a Shipping Profile to only one order? Yes. Shipping Profiles can be manually applied at the order level when needed.
Why don't I see Shipping Profiles in the Gear Icon? It may not be enabled for your environment yet. Contact Packiyo Support to request it.
Will disabling a carrier affect all of my clients? It depends on where it's connected. A 3PL-level carrier can affect all clients under that 3PL, while a client-level carrier only affects that specific client.
