Overview
Attached Label lets you ship an order using a label that comes from a marketplace, a retailer routing guide, or your own carrier account. Packiyo prints the label you attached and sends the carrier and tracking details to your sales channel, without generating a label of its own.
What You Need
Required
- Attached Label enabled for your account. This feature is off by default. Contact Packiyo Support at support@packiyo.com to enable it
- One label file per package, in PDF or ZPL format, up to 5 MB each
- The carrier name for each label
- A label printer assigned to the pack station
Optional
- A tracking number for each label
- A tracking URL for each label
⚠️ Warning: Attached Label is set manually on each order. Co-Pilot rules and shipping method mapping do not apply it.How Attached Label Works
- Packiyo makes no carrier call for this shipping method. There is no rate shopping, no label generation, and no carrier account required.
- Each package receives one label. Labels are assigned to packages in the order they were uploaded: package 1 receives the first label uploaded, package 2 the second, and so on.
- Each package carries the carrier, tracking number, and tracking URL from its own label.
- If an order has more labels than packages, the extra labels are not used and remain on the order.
- Packiyo never generates its own label to cover a missing one.
❓ Did You Know? ZPL files are sent directly to the label printer with no conversion.Step-by-Step Instructions
Attach a Label to an Order
- Open the order
- Set the order's Shipping Method to Attached Label
- In the Attachments section, click Add Attachment
Select Label from the Type dropdown
- The accepted formats update to PDF and ZPL
- An information note appears: "Label without tracking will result in fulfillment without tracking."
- Upload the label file in the upload area
- Enter the Carrier (Required)
- Enter the Tracking Number (Optional)
- Enter the Tracking URL (Optional)
- Click Save
The label appears in the attachments list with a Label badge, its carrier, and its tracking number. When a tracking URL is supplied, the tracking number is a link to it. Without a tracking URL, the tracking number is plain text.
💡 Tip: A label saves with both tracking fields empty as long as Carrier is filled in. Enter the tracking number and tracking URL when you have them so your customer receives tracking from the sales channel.
❓ Did You Know? The Type dropdown defaults to Document. Document attachments, such as packing notes, do not require a carrier or tracking, and do not count as labels for shipping.Attach Labels for a Multi-Package Order
- Repeat steps 3–9 above once for each package
- Review the attachments list to confirm the labels appear in the order they should be assigned
Labels in the list appear in upload order. That order decides which label is assigned to which package.
Replace a Label
- In the attachments list, click the delete action on the label to replace
- Upload the replacement label by repeating steps 3–9 above
⚠️ Warning: A replacement label is placed at the end of the order's labels. If the order has more than one label, review the attachments list to confirm each label will be assigned to the correct package.Pack and Ship the Order
- Pack the order as normal, opening as many boxes as the order needs
- Ship the order as you would any other order
Packing is never blocked by the number of labels. The label check happens when you ship.
Reprint Attached Labels
- Open the order overview
- In the recent shipments list, locate the shipment
- Select the reprint option for the shipment
Find Shipments Missing Tracking
- Navigate to the shipments list
- Apply the filter for shipments flagged as missing tracking
Completion
When shipping succeeds:
- The attached labels print to the pack station's label printer, the same printer a Packiyo label uses
- You return to the order overview
- The shipment appears in the order's recent shipments list
- Fulfillment is sent to the sales channel with the carrier from each package's label, plus the tracking number and tracking URL where supplied
No tracking prompt appears at ship time. The tracking decision is made when the label is attached.
Fulfillment without tracking: If a label has no tracking number, fulfillment is still sent to the sales channel with the carrier but without tracking, and the shipment is flagged as missing tracking. On a multi-package shipment, one label without tracking is enough to flag the shipment. Packages with tracking still send it.
Common Issues
Error: Attached Label is not listed as a shipping method
- Fix: The feature is not enabled for your account. Contact Packiyo Support at support@packiyo.com to enable it.
Error: The file is rejected when uploading a label
- Fix: Label attachments accept PDF and ZPL files only, up to 5 MB. Convert the file to PDF or ZPL, or reduce its size, and upload it again.
Error: The label cannot be saved
- Fix: Carrier is required on a Label attachment. Enter the carrier and click Save.
Error: Shipping fails with "This order does not have an attached label"
- Fix: The order has no attachment with Type set to Label. Add a label attachment. A Document attachment does not satisfy this requirement, so change the type to Label when adding the file. Packiyo does not generate a label as a fallback.
Error: Shipping fails with "This order has X attached labels but Y packages"
- Fix: The order has fewer labels than packages. Attach one label for each missing package, then ship again. Nothing ships until every package has a label.
Error: A label printed for the wrong package
- Fix: Labels are assigned in upload order. Review the attachments list to see the current order. To move a label, delete it and upload it again, which places it at the end.
Error: A customer did not receive tracking
- Fix: The label was attached without a tracking number, so the fulfillment was sent without tracking. Filter for shipments flagged as missing tracking to find these shipments. For future orders, enter the Tracking Number and Tracking URL when attaching the label.
