Disable "Check apps and files" in Security Settings

To disable Microsoft Defender SmartScreen for apps and files in Windows 11, follow these steps (follow text below graphic):

  1. Open Windows Security:

    • Press the Windows key, type "Windows Security," and hit Enter.

  2. Go to App & Browser Control:

    • In the Windows Security window, click on "App & browser control" in the left sidebar.

  3. Reputation-based Protection Settings:

    • Under the "Reputation-based protection" section, click on "Reputation-based protection settings."

  4. Turn Off SmartScreen for Apps and Files:

    • In the "Reputation-based protection settings" window, find the "Check apps and files" section.

    • Toggle the switch to Off.

  5. Confirm the Changes:

    • A User Account Control (UAC) prompt may appear. Confirm the changes by clicking Yes or entering your administrator password if prompted.

Heads Up:

After completing these steps, Microsoft Defender SmartScreen will no longer check apps and files on your Windows 11 system. Keep in mind that turning off this feature may increase the risk of running potentially harmful software, so be cautious about the files and apps you choose to run.
